Hong Kong Training Contract

Program Overview

We offer our comprehensive two-year Training Contract to law graduates who are passionate about pursuing a career in law.

This program will give you valuable experience in three of our practice groups: real estate, commercial, and litigation.

Each seat will give you hands-on experience in a practice group; you’ll get to choose each seat based on the practice areas you’re most interested in. And if you’d prefer to experience something completely new, you can take a secondment—you could apply for international secondment to one of our offices in London or D.C., or you could apply for an inter-office secondment to Singapore.

Program Details

At Mayer Brown, we believe successful lawyers know more than just the law. That’s why we make it our mission to help you develop a well-rounded body of professional knowledge. Your Training Contract will kick off with a five-day induction course where we’ll introduce you to the firm and cover some of the key skills you’ll need as a lawyer like writing, business development and financial management.

You’ll then begin the first of your four seats, where you’ll attend workshops and receive legal training specific to that area of law. You’ll acquire the most up-to-date industry knowledge in practice group meetings where you’ll discuss the most recent legal developments.

On top of that, you’ll be invited to our Updates in the Law program. This is a specially developed research and presentation program that will give you the opportunity to share your knowledge and showcase what you’ve learned with the entire firm. Here, you’ll be able to raise your profile and gain valuable exposure to the broader Mayer Brown community.

Development & Perks

We’re committed to your training and career development—and that doesn’t end with your Training Contract. We’ve created a post-qualification program to support your continued development as a lawyer that includes regular lectures and seminars on legal and department-specific training.

How to Apply

Step 2: Online Tests

Alongside your application form you’ll need to complete two online tests—a verbal reasoning test and a situational strengths test. To progress to the next stage of the application process, you’ll need to meet or surpass our benchmark scores for each of these tests.

The verbal reasoning test measures your verbal comprehension skills with five distinct modules: dexterity, comprehension, reasoning, interpretation and adaptability. Each module has four questions, making 20 questions in total.

You can answer four practice verbal reasoning questions here.

The situational strengths test uses a set of realistic scenario-based questions to establish how certain situations might make you feel, behave and react. Your responses will be scored in relation to traits that will help you succeed at Mayer Brown.

You can answer five practice situational strengths questions here.

How to Apply

Step 3: Written Assessment and Group Discussion

If your application form and online tests are successful, you’ll be asked to attend a 2-hour 15-minute written assessment and a 30 min group discussion.
